Congratulations!  The students have made it through the first semester!

In Algebra I we are busy learning about Systems of Equations and Inequalities. In a system of equations, there can be 3 answers: a points where intersecting lines cross, no solution if the lines are parallel, or infinite solutions if the lines are equivalent lines. This week we have also starting talking about the STAAR Algebra I test again and how important it is since that test is the only STAAR Math Test that a student needs to graduate.

In Geometry we have been learning about parallel and perpendicular lines.  Although the students learned about parallel and perpendicular lines in middle school now we are learning about Theorems and Postulates related to parallel and perpendicular lines such as ones involving angles.  For example, if two parallel lines are cut by a transversal there are several sets of congruent angles that are formed.

Math Models students have started on a new course, Math Models B, in Plato and should be working on that course every week.

We still have many topics to cover this spring and I would encourage you to ask your students about what they are studying in mathematics.

Next week the high school will be taking benchmarks tests for Algebra I STAAR students and other STAAR benchmark tests where how much your student has learned will be assessed. Encourage your son or daughter to do well on these benchmarks.
